Dental disease is one of the most common problems we see as veterinarians. Plaque and tartar accumulate on your pet's teeth. This will undermine the gumline and can result in loose teeth, pain, and infected teeth. Bacteria from these infected teeth can enter the bloodstream and infect your pet's kidneys, liver, or heart.
If a professional dental cleaning and polishing is recommended for your pet, a doctor will anesthetize your pet because the teeth must be cleaned above and below the gumline. We probe the gum for any pockets or infection. A digital xray can be taken quickly if there is any question about the tooth root. Extractions are done in a gentle manner with local nerve blocks and pain medications. Pain medication and antibiotics will be sent home when necessary. Because your pet's safety during this procedure is important, we monitor their heart rate, oxygen level and rate of breathing with a digital monitor throughout. We work with a Board Certified Dentist; Dr Klima (dvm-oralcare.com). He will do difficult extractions, root canals, enamel restoration and oral surgery at our clinic when necessary for your pet.
